Here Am I, Send Me

Series: Year Of The Message

The Prophet Isaiah is all about sending and being sent. God does the sending and we are the ones being sent. Our lives are defined by our response to God's call and our obedience to the mission he has for us. Isaiah himself experienced a very dramatic moment when things became crystal clear for him. He saw the Lord, and he heard the Lord asking, "Whom shall I send?"

Reframing Love: The Roses Will Bloom Again

Series: Year Of The Message

The Song of Solomon is a song of intimacy and passion. While this song is about a relationship between a man and woman, there is a parallel of the love and passion that God has for us. God pursues us. Because of the abuse and sinful ways the world has twisted love; we shy away from the open discussion of passion. For intimacy and passion to flourish between human beings and God, or from person to person, there is a need for some ground rules.

Reframing Purpose

Series: Year Of The Message

Some people have enough money and time to experience it all. Solomon, the son of King David, was one of those people. He was wealthy beyond imagination. He had a thousand wives. He built an enormous library. He was a brilliant thinker. He got a lot of king-work done. He checked all the usual suspects on his halting journey toward meaning and happiness.

Reframing Wisdom

Series: Year Of The Message

We are introduced in Proverbs to the wisdom of the ages and the sages. Here is a collection of truths that will generally work out in our lives. A soft answer will generally result in a decrease in the anger level. Diligent planting will usually bring a bountiful harvest. The introduction to the book is powerful, insightful, and life-changing. In the first few verses we discover the underpinnings of all that is to follow. The matters at hand are life and death. Get wisdom or die, that is the message. The job of reframing here is all about correctly indentifying the goal and fiding a strategy of pursuit that really works.

Reframing Worship

Series: Year Of The Message

We humans worship. We all do it—every generation, every tribe, every culture. We look beyond ourselves for meaning and purpose. Modern humans continue to worship with the same passion and zeal as have previous generations. In fact, the church of Jesus Christ around the globe has been greatly influenced in our times by a musical movement commonly characterized as “praise and worship.” I am happy to see this development in the church. I want to worship God more passionately myself. I love to hear the songs of the saints rising powerfully heavenward. Worship is not a liturgy, of course. It is not a certain set of songs or a routine of readings, servings, and settings. Worship is the heart of man lovingly humbled before the heart of God.
