Missions at FBNO

“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” (Galatians 5:6)

At FBNO we believe that our mission is to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God in word and deed.  We get this from the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39).  We are commissioned to go and make disciples and commanded to love God with our all and love our neighbor as ourselves.  So, we model our mission strategy, both local and global, with word and deed in mind.

As I write this, we have a team of youth on mission in Alaska, and a team of preteens on mission in Texas, and our Lesotho team is making final preparations to leave on Monday.  We are a church that gathers to go to the need.  We are a church that is called and sent into the world.  We are a church that approaches missions with gratitude, knowing that it is God’s Kingdom, but that we get to participate in the work in our neighborhood and around the world.

In some of our training for Lesotho we read about a Rwandan missionary who welcomed a mission group by saying, “Ninety percent of your job is done. You’re here, your presence speaks volumes.”  We realize that we don’t have all of the answers or all of the skills, but that we show up to participate in God’s ongoing work.

How will you express faith through love this week?
