A group of 18 senior adults attended an Anne Graham Lotz conference at The Cove in Asheville, North Carolina November 8-10. The conference center is located on a 1,200-acre campus with the stunning Chatlos Memorial Chapel decorated and designed by Ruth Graham. It also has a visitor center, two cozy on-site housing facilities, a beautiful dining hall, extensive Christian bookstore, and an impressive auditorium in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is the third year that an FBNO group has attended a conference at The Cove.
This year, our conference included four sessions from Anne’s new book, Jesus In Me—Experiencing the Holy Spirit as a Constant Companion. This book was written from the spiritual journey of loss and grief she experienced in the last four years. She lost her husband after forty-nine years of marriage. In February 2018, she lost her father, Billy Graham, and just six months after his death, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had cancer surgery and completed chemo and radiation treatments this spring. We were so blessed by her testimony and teaching of God’s faithfulness and mercy during this difficult time in her life. The trip also included a concert by Dove Award winner, Selah, and a day at the Biltmore Estate.
Even though this was an inspirational conference and a time of spiritual renewal, I was mostly blessed by the love and fellowship of my friends. All of our senior adults are a special generation that encourages and inspires me by their years of faithful service to our Lord. Their dedication and love for Jesus is an example for us all.
Our senior adult ministry includes other opportunities for fun, fellowship, and spiritual growth. A monthly luncheon is scheduled with a delicious meal and a wonderful program in our fellowship hall. We also take day trips to local restaurants and tour sites in and around our city. Follow us on Facebook at FBNO Senior Adults or contact me at 504.390.1157.
